Thanks to Skip Carl for sharing this photo of #3 flooding. So far, I haven't heard of any injuries in the area. Lets hope this passes and the damage is minimal.

Early May Golf Course Updates
The spring has suited us well here at Creekmoor. The greens and tees have healed nicely from aerification. The rough is doing well despite a long stretch of drought and the fairways even greened up a little earlier than normal. The recent rain helped us tremendously but washed out the bunkers. I guess we can't have it all the way we want it all the time can we!
I wanted to take some time to point out a few things everyone might be questioning. The fairways have gone into their reprodutive stage and are producing purple looking seedheads. Once mowed the seedheads disappear for a few days and the seed stalks turn tan. You will be seeing this for a few more weeks. Don't be alarmed that the fairways look sort of funky.

The darker or purpleish tint to the fairways is seedheads.
One other item I would like to address is the range tee, particularly the divots. Many people continue to take out giant patchs of turf in one concentrated area. By doing this, the area fills in MUCH slower than if the divots were spaced out or even taken out in one line. Below are a few pictures representing the good, bad and ugly!

This is the worst possible thing you can do on the range tee. This patch will take until next season to fill in completely!

There's nothing wrong with creating a line with your divots. This will fill in relatively quickly.

Scattering divots will fill in very fast!

New Fan on #6 Green
In the next week to ten days we will be installing the electrical box and lines for the new fan on #6 green. We will position the fan on the very back of the green. We do not plan to use the fan until the summer. The green thinned out considerably last summer but we only lost turf on parts of the collar. It is in the best interest of that green to get more air flow to it.

Foxridge Additions
If you had driven down Foxridge Drive today you would have come across some of the guys on the crew. Assistant Chad Gilkison and a few of the guys planted 225 ornamental grasses in the flower beds up and down Foxridge. Early in the morning, before they got started, I didn't think they could possibly get the job done in one day. I told them that if they did I would buy them all lunch. I'm buying them all lunch on Thursday.

Spring Update
As you may have noticed I have been relatively absent from posting on the blog. The early spring green-up and unusually high temperatures have kept me away from the office and my blogging. I apologize for this but you can be assured I haven't forgotton about the blog.
As for the golf course we have been and will be working hard to get the course into top condition as always. We have completed the renovation of the fairway bunker on #16. We took a long time to do this for a number of reasons. I'd get into this but don't want to waste your time. It is done.
We also have been placing sand in the bunkers and will continue this throughout the year. I realize many of you have complaints about the amount of sand but we are working diligently to rectify the situation.
Soon enough we will be planting about 200 ornamental grasses in the bare medians along Foxridge. Hopefully we can get this done very fast as we hardly have time to mow the grass on the golf course before it needs to be mowed again.
Today, Saturday and Sunday may prove to be one of the busiest weekends of the spring. We have around 200 golfers today and plan to do many more this weekend. With that kind of traffic we hope to be able to accomlish half of what we set out to do.
Of note, we plan to aerfiy the greens and tees on the 16th and 17th and will be closed for play those days.
